Cook book design for BOOOK Publishing

Mai Magyar Konyha (Contemporary Hungarian Cuisine) is a volume edited and published by Boook Publishing. The book contains 90 recipes of renowned chef Tamas Bereznay, the cook whose creations are served on all formal dinners of the State President of Hungary. With his first book, Tamás Bereznay wanted to pay tribute to traditional Hungarian cuisine, therefore also the design of the book had to reflect the country’s traditions. Main colour is red, as red is one the colours in the Hungarian flag, and red is the colour of paprika (typical spice of Hungarian dishes), too. Folk art is also remembered: initials and caption headers are written with a special font that reminds of traditional embroideries. Each recipe is illustrated by a colourful picture, while portraits and lifestyle pictures satisfies our need for voyeurism. I was responsible for both art direction and graphic design of the book.
